200 Posts!

I have noticed a new milestone for me. I have hit that magical number of 200 posts. I want to thank anyone who got me this far. I never thought I would have hit this mark.

I hope I have help some poeple the way this blog has helped me. I started this with the mission of self help and a way of tracking it. It has evolved to more but that still remains the heart of it all.

This blog is for me.

But, it seems, it is now for you as well.

I have been read in 26 countries now. This boggles my mind. I want to thank everyone who has opened (maybe even by accident) this blog. I have been searched on the Googles 85 times. Over 4000 views from when I start this a little over a year ago. Over 2000 different visitors.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

That is a lot of people hugging ponies!

Special People

I was at the convention, Anime North Texas, when I got asked to do a special job. I was put in Guest Relations. This met I got to pick up voice actors and pro cosplayers from the airport, make sure they made it to panels on time and make sure they were fed.

It was awesome.

I have always been good at customer service and this was no different. I just had to provide the best possible care for them. It is always fun for me to make people happy.

And I think I did.

I got to help pick up Cherami Leigh and her husband from the airport. It was so awesome just being able to talk to her. See how much she loves her job and seeing her “geek out” over other (in her opinion) more famous people was a adorable. She was one of the most kind actresses I have met.

Then there was Josh Martin and Chris Rager. They both had tables next to each other as they have been friends for awhile. They would play off each other for the people coming by their table. I got to sit near them at a special guest dinner and they were both amazingly funny. Again, just being able to talk to them about their work was so cool. They were very down to earth but they were awesome people.

(Sorry Chris, I could not get a picture with you!)

I also got to see an old friend from conventions past. Greg Ayres was someone I knew when I started doing conventions. I would do security for his dances. He is still the best DJ I know at conventions. He brought down the house. Seeing him outside his DJ was cool as well as he would talk about his new projects. Seeing him get excited about his own characters and having him giggle over how they came out the way he intended was so spectacular. He is so much fun to be around.

QuantumDestiny cosplay was super cool. I had to rush to the airport and pick her up. This was her first convention in Texas and she was so cute to watch. Her cosplays were amazing and she showed her skills off impeccably. Her skill at both cosplay and talking about it showed in each of her panels. She was truly one for the fans. (I do not have a picture of her unfortunately).

Then there was Chuck Huber. This guy had more energy than most toddlers. He was out and about. He had a table near my wife’s and we got to watch him in action with his fans. He would go out of his way to make sure that each one was made to feel special. Seeing him gave me so many ideas of how to be if someone looks up to you.

And then there was one other person. Someone I was not expecting.

Me…

I got to do my first panel, solo. It was called Surviving Fantastic Fandoms. I was not expecting the crowds being a Sunday morning panel. Being that as it may, I had 20 people show up to see me. It was so amazing talking about what I do at conventions and how to “act” as both a attendee and as a staffer.

I was not expecting to touch people as I did. I had people who were at the panel come up to me afterward and thank me for the panel. It felt so weird. I was not special, in my mind. Then I had someone buy me a Fluttershy hat. I had someone come up and give to me. I did not know how to respond other than thank you.

I was so confused. I am nobody special. I was not famous. I did not do anything. It wasn’t until I had a conversation with a friend later who informed me. He told me that I must have touch someone in a special way for them to do that. He said that act was a sign I was special.

I am still in shock over everything. But, I am coming to grips with the fact that I was not “Getting a big head” (as is my biggest fear of all). I want to let everyone who I interacted with know that you are ALL special to me and that I was beyond touched by how much fun we had. I wanted to say THANK YOU ALL!!

I will hug a pony with joy over the memories!

The weekender

Just a quick update for the weekend.

I want to thank everyone who has been sending me pony links. I have been going through each one and I drool over them every time. I have actually been working with a 3d modeling program to try and 3d print my own pony. The results are better than what I had first anticipated but I have a ways to go.

I have been sick over the past few days (even taking a day off of work *gasp) and have been trying to recover. My body seems adamant to kill me so I have to put up the usual fight.

I do hope to have some big news soon but until it gets confirmed you will just have to wait along side me.

Until next time, hug a pony my friends.

Break in the clouds.

I know I have been posting on rough times and hardships. I can be rather depressing (comes with being depressed I suppose). I do want to share some good news and a joyous moment that I am still being moved by.

Our apartment is safe.

We talked to a lawyer and we were informed that we could not be forced to move or thrown out. In fact, if we had taken the offer of moving out early, we would have been liable for fines and penalties. We got the documentation we needed and spoke to our office. We managed to hold our composure and not yell and scream back at the trouble they have caused. It is just a relief to feel safe again.

We also managed to have a quick family time in which everyone got along. Over the past week, my daughters and I have been connecting and have been sharing in their lives. One of the things I used to be able to do was go on “Daddy dates”. These mini outings included going to park with and just one of them, getting an ice cream cone or bubble tea (if you don’t know what bubble tea is you are missing out).  These have been taken from me due to life and work.

And it has been hard.

So I found us a new activity. We have been watching the new Agents of Shield. My girls, like their father, have turned into a comic book fan and we have been wrapped up in the movies and the show. Seeing the wonder and awe in their eyes at the stories being told fills me with joy.

I get to share that.

I get to help them discover their joy.

We have had a few rough times as the show and the Marvel movies twist and turn. We gasp at the betrayals and cry at the sadness. In all of this, one thing shines through for me.

I get to be there with them.

I get to connect with them.

And this brings me much joy.

I will be hugging my ponies with my daughters tonight.

Thank you God.

One of many to come.

I love a good build up. Bring people in, get the interest and hopes up, leave them hanging for just the right amount of time. The biggest thing is to deliver and to leave them wanting more. The biggest thing is to deliver. So I hope to do so now.

I mentioned that I had a few surprises coming and that I would be sharing them “soon”. Well soon is here for one of them (2 more to go after this *squee).

I have been wanting to have myself put into pony form (ponified) as I have yet to do so. For me this is kinda a big step as I am very picky. I am a stickler for details and for wanting things done a very certain way. When it has to represent me, I want it to be me. I want people to look at it and go, Yup, that is Daniel (yes I know my name, I said it [all kinds of surprises today]).

So I had put the word out and starting looking at people. I had a few very good suggestions  and I liked a few people but nothing was popping out at me. Then I had a friend come to me and told me he had an artist he used when he was needing an emblem for his business. I asked who it was and he told me Luke McKay.

Balls 2 That

Luke was an artist that I know of in many of the circles I run in as he is the main comic artist for Rooster Teeth, a website dedicated to all things geeky and gaming. I remember when they first started up with the web series Red vs Blue made from the original Halo and help pioneer online web series and such.

Really really big name for me.

I geeked out.

Not gonna lie.

So I was put in contact with him and some email correspondence took place. Through a gracious commission fee (bribe) and some heartfelt conversation (begging) I managed to score a Luke Mckay original version of a pony named after me. So without any more build up. I have me, in pony minor.

Thank you @lukemckay

…before the Dawn.

And now the conclusion for the previous post.

It was a rough day the other day. I had not prepared myself for the follow up. The following day was a day to remember.

But this time it was in a good way.

I actually enjoyed work for the first time in a while. I was able to make it through the day and not have a bad customer (that in and of itself was a miracle).

My wife is doing much better. She was able to get up and get around the house. Almost back to her old self. We have looked into a plan to get her back into yoga as that has helped before and should do so again. I am crossing my fingers that it all works out.

My daughters have been angels. Now that is common for them to behave good for a few days but this time, there seems to be a deeper connection. My oldest is taking more responsibility and is working things out with her sister.

And no one is talking about hitting the other person.

To encapsulate this whole day, I got one of my last Plushies in for the Build-a-bear My Little Ponies, SPIKE!! I did win the bid on him and he is in great condition.

I find myself in an unusual situation. I am not one for “The sun will come out, Tomorrow!” (too bright and cheerful, bleh) but I did feel I needed the win. While this may not help you all, please share in my win. I spread it around to all.

While I use this blog to help get things out of my system, i have a habit of always trying to help other people to the fault of putting myself at risk. But in this I share, share in the joy of a win. If its yours or mine or someone elses, share joy.

And there is no greater joy than I know of, then hugging a pony.
